Black and White Ruffed Lemur
(Varecia variegate)
In the wild, Black and White Ruffed Lemurs can be found in tropical forests on the island of Madagascar. Black and White Ruffed Lemurs are some of the largest living lemurs. The lemur families are highly vocal, and their loud calls can be heard up to a half-mile away.

Animal Class: Mammals.
Distribution: Madagascar.
Habitat: Forests.
Diet: Fruit, seeds and nectar.
Appearance: Black and white fur with a bushy tail.
Size: They can reach up to 55cm in body length and up to an extra 65cm in tail length! Adults can weigh up to 4.5kg.
Lifespan: Up to 19 years.
Allergen information: Please note if you happen to visit our lemurs there is the possibility of peanuts being present in their enclosure as it is part of their diet.
CONSERVATION STATUS
Critically Endangered.
Population Trend
Decreasing.
Threats
Habitat loss due to agriculture, logging and mining.
Population
Between 1,000 and 10,000 individuals.
